Upon researching a few examples of "two to one" studio lighting, I saw a trend. This concept is mostly used for more formal portraits, for example, school photographs. Tiny, insignificant photographs with no meaning other than to have one's face fit in the yearbook. Photography is an art form that must have meaning in order to be recognized. Photography must be striking.
It has been my goal in this project to defy the expectations of a "two to one" photograph. I played with the warmth of the light - My first photograph with a yellow hue and my second cooler in tone. I also experimented with the settings of my camera on manual, regarding aperture and shutter speed. My aperture was f 6.7 and my shutter speed was 1/70.
Through trial and error, I was able to capture my subject in both her most posed and natural appearance. However,
I believe the most inspiring aspect of a photograph rests in the eyes. No matter what colour the lighting is, no matter how posed, and no matter how off guard the subject is captured, the eyes must tell a story.
