Photography is an interesting form of self expression. I am drawn to the quirky, and the darkness in contrast with light. I find inspiration in discovering the aspects of people's faces that most do not notice, highlighting them, and finally illustrating how beautiful these unrecognized features really are.
Photograph after photograph and the lighting wasn't right, the focus was not clear, and the pose was not meaningful or natural. I finally made my aperture a f 8 and shutter speed an 1/40. I had adjusted my lighting to properly accent my subjects features, and I made other parts of my photographs dark enough to bring depth and a certain creativity for the audience to ponder. Before, I would get frustrated with how many photographs it would take to capture the perfect image, but now I embrace it. It takes time to capture a subject's likeness. You must get to know them, figure out how they move, and discover their personality. Be it a biology test the next day, an english essay about Hamlet, or even something as simple as thinking about baking blueberry muffins later that afternoon, I had to explore the depths of my subject's thoughts at that moment through light.
