"From Darkness into Light" - Painting With Light

Self criticism is as enemy that many have to deal with on a day to day basis, almost feeling like a certain darkness that envelopes the light. As a perfectionist, surrendering to negativity is easy. I saw this assignment as a method to illustrate my struggle with perfectionism in nearly every aspect of my life through the use of light. My photographs are shown in an order of progression from an attempt to break free from the negativity, represented by the darkness, to the creation of an umbrella of light. In order to achieve my photographs, I opened the aperture of my camera to thirty seconds and used a tripod in order to capture the painting with light effect.
